Luxembourg schools: International and multilingual

Luxembourg’s education system delivers exceptional advantages for international families. With high-quality standards and a rich multicultural approach, it provides diverse options in languages and teaching methods from early childhood to higher education.

Where young minds grow

Luxembourg invests in education at every level. For younger children, heavily subsidised multilingual childcare programmes support early development. For older students, the country offers prestigious higher education options, including the University of Luxembourg and specialised research institutes with strong international connections.

An extensive international school network welcomes students from varied cultural backgrounds, preparing them for success in our global society. The Service de l'intégration et de l'accueil scolaires provides personalised guidance to ensure seamless integration regardless of linguistic or cultural background or prior education level.

World-class learning in a multilingual environment

Reflecting its international population including 47% of foreign nationals, Luxembourg’s education system places strong emphasis on language learning. The country excels at integrating students from abroad, with schools well-equipped to welcome international families.

International schools for international families

With free public schooling and numerous international schools, Luxembourg stands out as an attractive destination for families. International schools are located throughout the country, with options ranging from early years through secondary education. They follow respected curricula including the International Baccalaureate (IB), European Baccalaureate (EB) and other globally recognised programmes, ensuring smooth transitions for relocating families.
  1. Trilingual national education:
The national public system offers trilingual education in Luxembourgish, German and French.
  2. Government-funded, free international curricula:
These international schools provide internationally recognised programmes taught in English, German or French.
  3. Well-respected international schools:
In addition to the Government-funded European schools, Luxembourg offers a number of private schools, such as the European School, the International School of Luxembourg, St George’s International School and the French Vauban – École et Lycée Français de Luxembourg, which charge tuition fees.
  4. Multilingual higher education:
The University of Luxembourg offers courses in English, French and German, and requires bachelor students to spend one semester abroad.

Many schools offer language support, extracurricular activities and cultural programmes that celebrate Luxembourg's international character. With growing investment in educational facilities and strong connections to Luxembourg's innovation sectors, these schools prepare students for success in an increasingly connected world.

Children of Luxembourg residents can apply for state financial aid for higher education, aimed at enabling eligible students to pursue higher-education courses regardless of their parent's financial situation.
