The University of Luxembourg has a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character with a research focus on digital transformation, health and sustainable development. It offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programmes in a wide range of fields. Students benefit from state-of-the-art teaching, research and study facilities. Many programmes are bilingual (French – English or French – German), while some are trilingual or taught entirely in English. All students enrolled at the University of Luxembourg are authorised to work during their studies, regardless of their nationality, both during university holidays (up to 40 hours per week) and during term time (up to 15 hours per week). The university maintains strong ties with EU institutions as well as Luxembourg’s financial centre and industry. Small classes ensure direct interaction between students and teaching staff, which includes leading academics and industry experts. Just over half of graduates remain in Luxembourg for their first job.

International students from outside the EU/EEA (so-called third-country nationals) benefit from dedicated visa and residence permit procedures to study full-time in Luxembourg for a period exceeding three months. They must apply for an authorisation to stay and then a residence permit as a student. 

 After graduation, third-country nationals can stay in Luxembourg to look for a job or start a business. The process involves two steps:

1.  Apply for a post-study residence permit before the expiry of the student residence permit.
2. Once employed or having established a business, apply for the corresponding long-term residence permit.
