Luxembourg Spouse Programme: helping international spouses build their future in Luxembourg

Luxembourg continues to face recruitment challenges across many sectors, making the attraction and retention of international talent a strategic priority for the country’s competitiveness. Recognising that international mobility is often a family project, the successful integration of accompanying spouses and partners has become an increasingly important factor in ensuring that international talents choose to build their future in Luxembourg.

It is in this context that the Chamber of Commerce hosted the first Introduction and Orientation Module of the Luxembourg Spouse Programme on 29 September 2026 as part of the Work in Luxembourg initiative. Bringing together around 250 international spouses and partners, the event marked the successful launch of a collaborative programme designed to support accompanying spouses in identifying opportunities, building connections and shaping their personal and professional journey in Luxembourg. 

Developed and coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Ministry of the Economy and the Ministry of Labour, the Luxembourg Spouse Programme is implemented in collaboration with a broad network of stakeholders, including the Chamber of Crafts, the House of Training, the ADEM, the House of Entrepreneurship, the Biergerpakt - Ministry of Family Affairs, the Agence du Bénévolat, the Maison de l'Orientation and the Ministry of Research and Higher Education. The programme reflects a shared ambition to strengthen Luxembourg's attractiveness to international talent and to facilitate the successful integration and development of accompanying spouses and partners in Luxembourg.

Supporting international talent means supporting their families

The Luxembourg Spouse Programme is built on a simple conviction: attracting and retaining international talent requires supporting not only professionals who relocate to Luxembourg, but also the spouses and partners who accompany them. Creating the right conditions for accompanying spouses and partners to pursue their professional, educational and personal ambitions is an essential component of a successful relocation journey. 

In his welcome address, Carlo Thelen, Director General of the Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the important contribution international talent makes to Luxembourg’s economy and competitiveness. He underlined that spouses and partners also bring valuable skills, experience and expertise that can enrich the labour market and wider society. 

This vision was echoed by the video messages of Minister of the Economy Lex Delles and Minister of Labour Marc Spautz, who emphasised the importance of considering international mobility from a broader family perspective. 

They highlighted the need to create favourable conditions enabling accompanying spouses and partners to access opportunities, develop their skills, build professional networks and pursue their personal and professional ambitions in Luxembourg. 

A programme built around opportunities and guidance

During the morning session, participants gained insights into Luxembourg’s economic landscape, labour market trends and multicultural working environment. They were also introduced to the four pathways of the Luxembourg Spouse Programme, covering employment, entrepreneurship, continuing education, and local anchoring & community engagement.

Delivered by a network of specialised partners, these pathways are designed to help participants identify and pursue opportunities aligned with their aspirations, skills and ambitions. Whether seeking employment, launching a business, developing new competencies, obtaining recognition of qualifications or becoming more involved in community life, participants can benefit from tailored guidance and support. 

A collaborative ecosystem for integration

The second part of the event enabled participants to meet programme partners during a networking and information fair. These exchanges reflected the programme's commitment to connecting participants with the right expertise, resources and opportunities, while fostering meaningful relationships within Luxembourg's talent and integration ecosystem.

About the Luxembourg Spouse Programme

The Luxembourg Spouse Programme is developed and coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Ministry of the Economy and the Ministry of Labour, as part of the Work in Luxembourg initiative. Through dedicated pathways focused on employment, entrepreneurship, continuing education and local integration, the programme supports spouses and partners of international talents in identifying opportunities and building their personal and professional future in Luxembourg.

Following the strong interest generated by the first in-person session held on 29 September 2026, the online edition of the Introduction and Orientation Module, scheduled for 2 October 2026, is also fully booked. The next edition of the Luxembourg Spouse Programme will take place in January 2027.
